Making Pasta Angles and Similar Triangles

In 8^th grade math the students have been working on dilations and similarity between geometric figures. In this activity, students create triangles with dried pieces of pasta! They were given angles measurements to create the triangles from and then they were to compare them to classmates’ triangles to see that they are not necessarily congruent, but they are similar. The students were able to place the given angle measurement on one side of the triangle and then the triangle is determined by the length of that side and the two angles made with that side. It was a fun twist and engaging way for the students to practice identifying similar triangles using angle measurements, side lengths and determine the correct scale factor.
