Building a Love of Reading

The mission of St. John’s Lutheran School Library Media Center is to support literacy, develop and sustain the love of reading, and to foster life-long learning.

The library is open every
school day from 7:30am-3:30pm

The Library Program

The library program at St. John’s actively reaches out to the student population and seeks to provide services relevant to current learning. Students are encouraged to read for pleasure and to utilize the library resources in conjunction with their classroom learning. Classes have regularly scheduled visits, and students have the opportunity to visit the library individually, after receiving their teacher's Permission. Basic library skills such as using the online database to search for books and locating books within the various sections of the library are taught at all grade levels. The Accelerated Reading Program is utilized in grades 1-5, Kindergarteners can participate in the Caldecott Club.  First graders can participate in the ARCH Books Club. In addition, an extracurricular program, Battle of the Books, is available for students who are interested.
