Serving Others and Brightening a Child’s Day!

Every year, the St. John’s chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) organizes a school-wide service project which helps others outside of our St. John’s community. (NJHS recognizes outstanding achievement in five areas: scholarship, citizenship, service, leadership and character.) The members of NJHS organize and run the service project.

This year, the members chose to help long-term patients at CHOC hospital by providing toys, games, and crafts for the children. The members separated themselves into teams for each grade level and began pitching the project. They created a wish list poster for their classroom and encouraged the students to participate by bringing in dollars to buy the toys. The classes competed against each other for a free-dress day! Each day the members collected the donations and recorded the amount brought in.

The student body was very generous and brought in approximately $3800! The members were able to donate a $1000 gift card dedicated to toys. They also bought around 150 items on the CHOC Amazon wish list site. CHOC reached out and expressed their sincere gratitude for brightening the day of their patients!
