Meeting New Friends in 2nd Grade!

This week in our classroom, we worked on an activity that was all about building friendships and getting to know each other. Each student was partnered up with a new friend. They had the chance to conduct an interview by asking fun questions, draw a picture of their new friend, and then introduce their new friend to the class.

This activity was more than just fun—it was an important learning opportunity. In 2nd grade, students are growing not only as readers, writers, and mathematicians, but also as friends and classmates. Taking the time to listen carefully to someone else’s story, share about ourselves, and speak kindly in front of the group helps students practice valuable skills like active listening, asking thoughtful questions, speaking confidently in front of others, and showing kindness and respect.

Most of all, it helps us create a classroom community where everyone feels seen, valued, and cared for. I truly believe that when our classroom is full of kindness, encouragement, and respect, our students feel safe to take risks, try new things, and grow both academically and personally.
