Making Fishers of Men, as Worship Leaders

One of my absolute favorite parts of being a Lutheran school teacher is that we get to talk about Jesus with our students every day.  We get to pray with and for each student, read and discuss Bible stories, attend chapel services together, memorize scripture, sing praise songs, and even help to lead worship.   On Sunday, October 9th, our 2nd graders sang at the 8:30 sanctuary service and helped to lead worship in several ways.  A choir loft of seven- and eight-year-olds shared two songs with the congregation that they had learned at school, Shine and Abundawonderful Life in Jesus.  In both songs, they reminded us to share God's love and joy with everyone around us.  

One of our 2nd graders, Cameron, read and shared the Gospel lesson with the congregation.  In Jim Meyer's children sermon, he showed a picture from a recent fishing story and helped us all remember that God calls us to be fishers of men.  "What does that mean?" he asked. We are called to make disciples and bring people into relationship with God.  In his fishing analogy, Jim Meyer also reminded us that God gives us the perfect bait... His word.    Thanks to livestreaming, many 2nd grade families were able to share the link for this worship service with family members who couldn't attend, and we can continue to share these songs and Jim's children's message with you.  It's amazing to be part of the ministry at St. John's and to help these kids cast their nets into so many groups - friends, family, the congregation, and viewers online, catching one fish at a time for Jesus.
