Fun and Fitness: 7th and 8th grade Physical Education
Project: Design a 30 minute fitness training circuit.
Each class was split into 5 groups, with each group designing their own take on what type of circuit training they wished for their peers to participate in. A variety of strategies were applied when it came to designing these programs. All groups were required to add motivational music to their workout, become masters of their exercises, and lead/instruct their peers through the full workout. Some groups chose the setting of leading the entire class through each exercise as a large group, while other groups chose to become experts at specific exercises and rotated smaller groups through a variety of stations for their circuit. As their PE teacher, I was extremely proud of what the students as a whole designed. Each group put a lot of thought, time, and effort into their workout. The variety of exercises and styles were unique to the group dynamics. This project showed that when given the time and opportunity to lead, students stepped up and took on the challenge of this project.
