First Field Trip Ever!

Our first graders attended their first ever field trip! It was an amazing and joyful experience. Students travelled by bus  to the Environmental Nature Center in Newport Beach where they learned about animal habitats and adaptations as well as the mobility of seeds.

Naturalists guided the groups of children to discovery stations. At this station in particular, students learned about animal body coverings and how their adaptations help animals to survive in their environment. We have a mammal with fur and sharp claws for surviving in the forest, a fish with scales to protect its body in the ocean, and a snake with scales to protect it in the hot dry desert.

First graders were able to explore the environment and discover many animals in their natural habitats by looking under rocks, fallen branches, and in the water.  They found tadpoles, fish, beetles, and many more interesting creatures.

The Naturalists shared their toad named Bowser and snake named Fernanda. Bowser made a great effort to hop out to meet the first graders. Students were invited to pet Fernanda if they wished. She was smooth and cool to the touch.

It was a wonderful learning trip. The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves. As one student shared, “I love field trips! This is the best day ever!” I couldn't agree more!
