All About Owls!

The 5^th graders recently completed a cross-curricular unit combining Language Arts and Science.  Students read the novel There is an Owl in the Shower, by Jean Craighead-George, which is about a cute owl named Bardy who lost his home due to logging. 

While reading the novel in Language Arts class the students studied owls and their environments. In science they learned about what owls eat. To wrap up the owl unit students dissected an owl pellet in their science class.  They sorted and classified the bones they found in the pellet. After identifying the types of animals their owl ate, they used the bones to reconstruct the animal skeleton.  This activity is one of the highlights of 5^th grade.
