4th Grade Gold Rush Entrepreneurs

The 4^th graders recently completed a project connected to the California Gold Rush. They learned that not everyone had a lot of luck during the Gold Rush and not all miners always struck it rich. Some gold-seekers had to become entrepreneurs to find different ways to make their fortune. The students learned about the process of creating, marketing, selling, and buying items for “gold.”

Students used simple materials to make gold pans, food, mining tools, camping items, and other supplies that would be helpful for life in California in the 1850s. The students learned the hard work that goes into running a simple business, the concept of supply and demand, and how to spend carefully.
