Gold Rush in 4th Grade!

Students in 4^th grade learned about the Gold Rush from the novel By the Great Horn Spoon. The main characters in the novel, Praiseworthy and Jack,  were very creative and although they didn’t strike it rich, they discovered a few opportunities to use their entrepreneurial skills to make money and survive in the diggins’. After completing the novel, the students were given the task to create a product to sell that would have been needed or used in the Gold Rush era. Students had access to the Maker’s Space materials from the Tech Lab or they bought materials at the store to use. We call it the “Miner’s Marketplace.” All products were handmade including: soap, pick axes, woven poke pouches, medicine kits, and sticks to stake your claim to name a few. Enjoy the pictures!
