Fun with Dewey Decimal!

In the months of January and February the first through fifth graders either learned about for the first time or reviewed the different categories of the Dewey Decimal System.  The non-fiction books in the library are organized into 10 major categories based on the system that Melvil Dewey invented in 1876.   Each grade had special activities that they completed.  After learning about the organizational system, the first graders got to go to “the other side” of the library and check out “Dewey” books.  Second graders reviewed how to search for books using the online catalog and identifying where books were located by their call numbers.  The third graders did a Dewey Scenario scavenger hunt by first researching the online catalog and then using the call numbers they had written to find the books on the shelves.  The fourth and fifth graders played a quiz-style game using Dewey Decimal handouts for reference.
