First Grade to Nature!

For our spring field trip, all of First Grade went to the Environmental Nature Center in Newport on the last day of March. We took a hike through the Nature Center with our Naturalist Guides. They taught us many things such as the benefits of enjoying nature, animal adaptations, inventions that used animals as their inspiration, how animals use their senses, how seeds travel, and much, much more!

As we reflected on our trip, many of the students said their favorite part was meeting the snake, Fiesta, and the frog, Mr. Pickles. Others enjoyed seeing their friends dressed up like different animals from different habitats. And still others enjoyed learning about some of the plant life at the Nature Center, from smelling the Sage plant to understanding the dangers of Poison Oak!

As a teacher, I am always impressed by the educational experience we get when we go on this field trip. If you are interested in checking it out for yourself, admission is free on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-3pm. It’s always a good reminder to get out into nature, walk and then be still and enjoy God’s marvelous creation!
