Bringing History to Life!

During third quarter, third grade brought history to life through their annual Living History Museum!  Over the last several weeks, the third graders were able to choose and read about an important person in history that has made an impact in the world.  Then after some detailed notetaking, the students created multiple drafts of their speech to help their person come to life by honoring their accomplishments.  Upon completion of the draft, each student then memorized their speech and practiced it with partners and small groups in preparation for presentation day.  Even with the blessing of rain in the forecast, history was still brought to life by the third graders as they shared about their important person with friends, family, and other classes.  

This is an exciting project that third graders always look forward to creating.  It provides them with the learned skills of notetaking from reading, organizing information in sequential order of someone’s life, and writing in the first-person point of view of the important person.  Then students get to practice their speaking and listening skills as both presenters and audience members.  It is always impressive and amazing to see what our talented third graders can do to bring a person from history to life!
