6th Grade Lost in the Woods

As a fun pairing to our novel, Hatchet, in which a boy must survive in the woods, the sixth graders were able to engage in a lost hiking “adventure”. They read a Canadian boreal forest hiking guide and were given items that might help them when hiking in the woods. They encountered multiple survival scenarios, and figured out how they can use their strengths, along with their special items, to overcome the obstacles. After a freezing night in the forest, they survived their dangerous hike. The world wants to know their story. They then shared their story in the form of a classroom press conference.
